A MAJORITY of projects identified in the Community Recovery Plan have been supported and delivered across Black Saturday-affected areas, the Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority says.In February 2009, following the devastating bushfires, the state and federal governments established a $10 million Community Recovery Fund. The two levels of government contributed $5 million each to help community development and recovery. The recovery fund operates in line with the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements and is designed to help community recovery, aid community development and strengthen communities for the future. The VBRRA this week released an update, high-lighting the status of projects identified by community recovery committees in their plans for recovery.Support for many of the priority projects was made possible through the joint efforts of 33 community committees working in partnership with their local communities, VBRRA, other government departments and authorities, councils, the philanthropic sector and private donors. According to the update, almost 800 projects have been supported, including the rebuilding of major community infrastructure and delivery of health and wellbeing programs and community events.VBRRA spokeswoman Bianca Lovrecic said the plans were pivotal in driving and directing the community rebuilding and recovery effort, through a focus on the needs and priorities of each community.“Hundreds more projects have been funded and implemented outside the Community Recovery Plan process, which complements the significant support for individuals provided by governments and private donors, including gifts of more than $300 million from the Bushfire Appeal Fund,” Ms Lovrecic said. The vast majority of projects were in the process of being delivered and the next steps were being considered, she said. For full details of local Community Recovery Plan updates, go to www.wewillrebuild.vic.gov.auAre you happy with the way your community has been rebuilt since Black Saturday?
