THE Democratic Labor Party has entered the election race in Bendigo with three candidates contesting the November 27 election.Sandra Caddy, of Castlemaine, will run in Bendigo West, while Heathcote resident James Stewart will contest Bendigo East.Mark Royal from Sunbury is the DLPs upper house candidate. The trio’s campaign will be officially launched on the weekend, but they have already been vocal about their policies.Ms Caddy, who has just completed an education degree, said she signed up after realising there were no parties standing in the electorate whose policies she supported.“We want to bring power back to the hands of the people, allow them to govern their own lives,” she said.Ms Caddy said she would be standing for decentralisation of government and free public transport to support that; improved palliative care for the terminally ill as opposed to euthanasia, and for the decision to add fluoride to Castlemaine’s water supply to be reversed.Father of four and IT contractor James Stewart said he would be looking at issues including distribution of wealth, childcare rebates for stay at home parents, and abortion.“We want a better distribution of Australian wealth – not a system where workers are represented by unions and opposed to owners of an industry, but a co-operative where employees own a share of the industry they work in,” he said.“We are a pro-life party.”In the upper house father of five and painter and decorator Mark Royal was most concerned about abortion.“It’s not just about abortion or no abortion, it’s the effect on society,” he said.“We spend millions of dollars on IVF, but it would be much better if people adopted the babies instead of people having abortions and babies being killed.”
