CENTRAL Victorians have been warned to brace for major floods today and tomorrow, with 100mm of rain expected to fall across the region in the next 48 hours.A severe weather warning of damaging winds has also been issued for people in the North Central, Northern Country, Central and North East forecast districts. The Loddon and Avoca rivers were last night at moderate flood warning. However, this morning’s downpour is expected to tip the already soaked catchments well above major flooding levels.Local SES crews are on standby; many volunteers are already overworked after tending to flash floods yesterday.SES regional manager Graeme Poulton said flash floods affected most of the region, with low to moderate levels closing roads across the state. He said many people were requesting sandbags to prepare their homes for the worst.Owner of the Inglewood IGA Peter Moore said a downpour at 11.30am yesterday caused water to flow over the main roads and at times creep close to doorsteps.“We’ve had a mini-river flowing alongside the main street and across roads for most of the day,’’ Mr Moore said. “A few people have had water come within half an inch of their homes.’’SES volunteers were in Inglewood yesterday helping residents prepare their homes.
