PLANNING Minister Matthew Guy has given the green light to rezone land at Jackass Flat for new residential development. The Minister for Planning has approved an amendment to the Greater Bendigo Planning Scheme which will allow developers to create 1200 new residential lots.Council's director of planning and development Prue Mansfield said the minister’s decision is the culmination of seven years of extensive site investigations, community consultation and strategic planning by the City of Greater Bendigo. She said while a small area within the Jackass Flat has some issues with salinity and groundwater, specific planning controls are now in place to manage this."The developers will be required to engage an expert consultant to prepare a salinity management plan for parts of the Jackass Flat area where there are obvious signs of salinity," she said."These matters were discussed in great detail as part of the amendment panel hearing."For more, see tomorrow's Bendigo Advertiser.
