Friends rally around country music star after cancer diagnosis

Ms McClymont, one-third of country trio The McClymonts, will be taking a break from performing after receiving the triple-negative breast cancer diagnosis.

The former Getaway and Farmer Wants a Wife presenter said she was misdiagnosed after finding a lump in October 2023 but doctors found the cause of her illness in February.

"The world stopped suddenly and everything that we thought 2024 would be came crashing to an almighty halt," the Tamworth Country Music Festival Starmaker 2005 winner said.

"It has become my full-time job having treatment."

This fast-growing cancer accounts for up to 15 per cent of all breast cancer cases, according to the Breast Cancer Network Australia.

"It has begun with chemotherapy/immunotherapy, which in total will be five months, followed by surgery and then radiation," Ms McClymont said.

"Sometimes, it feels like Groundhog Day when I find myself back at the hospital for my weekly chemo, blood tests and shots," she said.

Friends and family have rallied around the singer, her husband and their children, she said.

Fellow country music stars Troy Cassar-Daley and Felicity Urquhart have left messages of love and hope for Ms McClymont on social media as have Catriona Rowntree and Karl Stefanovic.

"Feeling like I can't be the mother and wife I want to be has been the hardest, as there are days I can't get out of bed," Ms McClymont said.

"When I am feeling my lowest, I remind myself of something my oncologist told me: 'Give me a year so you can have 50 more'," she said.

"It always gets me through. I know I will come out the other side of this but it's one step at a time."
