Bendigo police blitz nets five drink-drivers

BENDIGO police caught five drink-drivers and one drug-driver at the weekend.

Sergeant Geoff Annand from Bendigo’s highway patrol said an eight-hour TAC-funded police operation started at 11pm on Saturday and finished at 7am on Sunday.

He said three members carried out about 180 alcohol and drug tests.

The first drink-driver, an 18-year-old from Dandenong, was caught at 2.15am on Sunday. He gave a reading of .06.

At 3.39am on Sunday a 23-year-old male from Eaglehawk tested positive to a preliminary oral drug test. Sergeant Annand said more tests would be carried out and drug-driving charges may follow.

At 4.30am on Sunday a 20-year-old female P-plater from Kerang blew .048 before police caught a 22-year-old male drink-driver at 5.35am.

“And at 3.27am on Sunday one of our other units detected a 23-year-old from Kangaroo Flat with a reading of 0.157,” Sergeant Annand said.

“Then on Sunday afternoon at 5.30pm a 26-year-old from Huntly was detected travelling at 99km/h in a 60km/h zone in Long Gully. He gave a reading of .073.”
