What a staggering result... double the amount of money raised last year.
Bendigo Health was (rightfully) pretty chuffed with the response from the Bendigo community to this event.
There was an expectation the event would grow, but no one in their wildest dreams would have predicted such a result. But as Bendigo Health director Jane Anderson said yesterday... “that’s just typical of Bendigo”.
How true. Give this community a reason to rally and people appear in droves. That’s the way it’s always been and let’s hope this city never loses that special community spirit.
What’s most encouraging about the fun run this year is the increase in interest from corporate teams and families.
Clearly people are looking on the event as not only a way to help Bendigo Health but a means of getting out and about together for some fun.
Such an attitude towards the event is exactly what the fun run organisers were after. The fact that so many people have turned out and enjoyed themselves serves the future of the event well.
We can only hope everyone has been talking about what a great day they had which will surely encourage more people to turn out next year.
For now though, the focus falls on Bendigo Health medical unit manager Lisa Livingston and her team, who have the great responsibility of putting the money to good use.
It sounds like the team might be heading back to the drawing board with Ms Livingston admitting no one was expecting such a response. What a great problem to have. Well done to all involved.
