Bendigo Health announced yesterday it raised $111,219.72 for the medical ward from last Sunday’s fun run.
Bendigo Health director Jane Anderson said it smashed last year’s total of over $50,000.
“We’re very excited,” she said.
“It’s typical of Bendigo.
“Everyone had a great time last year and got behind it again this year.”
Ms Anderson said all facets of the fun run grew, from the amount of corporate teams involved, to the number of families who participated.
Ms Anderson said the money would go towards the medical ward, an area which traditionally did not get many donations.
She said the nurse unit manager and team would have the final decision of what to do with the funds.
“So it goes exactly where it needs it,” she said.
Bendigo Health medical unit manager Lisa Livingston said she had a list of ideas of where the money could go to.
“We’ve got lots of ideas for it. There’s always a list of things we could do with,” she said.
Ms Livingston said one of the ideas was to build a complex care room for people with a higher dependency.
She said she was not expecting so much money from the fun run.
“It’s just so fantastic. We weren’t expecting so much.”
Ms Anderson said the Bendigo community could get in training for next year’s fun run already.
“We’ll be back next year on November 3,” she said.
“We really look forward to everyone coming out again and supporting Bendigo Health.”
