Historic COVID-related deaths recorded as Greater Bendigo sees more than 100 new cases
Greater Bendigo has recorded 104 additional COVID infections overnight.
According to the Victorian Department of Health, the total number of active cases in the municipality is currently sitting at 749.
The majority of the new infections were linked to the 3550, 3551, 3555, 3556 postcodes. Heathcote reported one new infection in the last 24 hours.
Bendigo Health has confirmed staff are caring for 34 COVID patients in hospital, nine of those in its respiratory ward.
There are currently no patients in ICU.
Staff are monitoring and caring for 81 people in its Hospital in the Home program.
Elsewhere in the state, both Buloke Shire and the Central Goldfields Shire recorded six and seven new infections respectively, while Gannawarra and Loddon had four and six each.
Campaspe Shire (30), Mount Alexander (23) and the Macedon Ranges (53) also saw additional infections.
These number come as Victoria's daily COVID-19 cases were on the slight rise on Wednesday afternoon.
The 5898 new cases were made up of 4373 rapid-antigen tests and 1525 positive PCR tests.
The new data takes Victoria's active cases to 37,085.
Currently, there are 610 people in hospital due to COVID-19 with 30 in intensive care and eight on ventilators.
Sadly, 53 COVID-related deaths were recorded, however, the DHHS has said this number included 40 from the last week, 10 in the past fortnight and two in late July.
Missing man last seen on East Lloyd Street
Police are searching for a missing man known to frequent the Bendigo area.
Hayden, 25 years old, was last seen in Bendigo on Sunday, August 7.
He was last seen on East Lloyd Street in Bendigo.
Anyone with information on Hayden's whereabouts is urged to contact Bendigo police on (03) 5448 1300.

Weather-wise, after a freezing night and a bit of fog, the region is set for a beautiful day to with hardly a cloud in the sky.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, Bendigo will see a bit of fog in the morning after temperatures of negative one degrees, but that will turn into a sunny day and a top temperature of 13 degrees.
There is a slight chance of a shower and light winds becoming northeasterly and 15 to 20 km/h in the middle of the day before becoming light in the late afternoon.
For other parts of the region, Castlemaine is in for a frosty and foggy day with a 20 per cent chance of rain in the west of the region.
Light winds are set to become north to northeasterly and 15 to 25 km/h in the morning then becoming northeasterly 25 to 35 km/h in the evening.
Overnight temperatures are set to fall to around minus one degree with daytime temperatures reaching between 10 and 13.
In the north of the state, Echuca could see a frosty morning that will turn into a cloudy, but windy day with a top temperature of 15 degrees.
