Greater Bendigo has recorded 303 additional COVID infections overnight.

According to the Victorian Department of Health, the total number of active cases in the municipality is currently sitting at 1581.

The majority of the new infections were linked to the 3550, 3551, 3555, 3556 postcodes. Heathcote reported 10 new infections in the last 24 hours.

Bendigo Health has confirmed staff are caring for 42 COVID patients in hospital, 15 of those in its respiratory ward.

There are currently two patients in ICU.

Staff are monitoring and caring for 193 people in its Hospital in the Home program.

Elsewhere in the state, both Buloke Shire and the Central Goldfields Shire recorded seven and 18 new infections respectively, while Gannawarra and Loddon had 24 and 16 each.

Campaspe Shire (59), Mount Alexander (42) and the Macedon Ranges (80) also saw additional infections.

Victoria has reported 12,984 new coronavirus infections on Wednesday, bringing the state's number of active cases to 66,898.

It is a rise of 783 daily cases then reported on Tuesday, according to the Department of Health.

Hospitalisations have risen above 900 since Tuesday, with the department reporting 906 people across the state hospitalised, 45 in the ICU and nine on ventilators (this is a drop of two overnight).

In the last 24 hours, 28 people died with the virus.

Vaccination rates are climbing slowly, 68.8 per cent of Victorians aged 16 and over having received their third dose.
