Members of a NSW drag race team are recovering after several of them were burned by an engine backfire at the Sydney Dragway.

Paramedics were called to the Eastern Creek raceway in Sydney's west about 5pm on Saturday after reports of an engine backfire.
Five patients were treated, including a man in his 20s who was taken to the Royal North Shore Hospital with serious burns.
One of the race team members sustained head and back injuries when he was thrown backwards by the force of the blast, NSW Ambulance Inspector Greg Marshall said.
"The patients were in close proximity to the engine when they were struck by this brief blast of fire," he said.
The International Hot Rod Association Australia is investigating along with the organisers of the Australia Top Fuel Championship.
The Jim Read Racing team posted to Facebook on Saturday night to say four of its members had been released from hospital.
A fifth required further treatment on his hand but is expected to make a full recovery.
