She thought with a son she could withstand all the difficulties and challenges life threw her way, including migrating to Australia after the death of her husband.

But then Mohammad died.

Days before his 18th birthday, he was fatally stabbed during a fight between two groups of friends in a Geelong shopping centre car park in August 2020.

A then-17-year-old boy is charged with his murder. Two other men have also admitted to stabbing him in the arm and leg, after a blade already pierced his heart.

Mohammad had emergency surgery but was declared brain dead and his life support was turned off a day after his 18th birthday.

Alith Wal, 20, and Nyal Mainyal, 21, have admitted intentionally causing serious injuries to Mohammad, who they didn't know.

They also pleaded guilty to charges of affray and committing offences on bail. Wal admitted being in possession of MDMA.

Their actions, stabbing Mohammad after he had been mortally wounded, were cowardly and despicable, Justice John Champion said.

He questioned what young people were thinking bringing knives to fights.

"Do they not understand that plunging a knife into someone is an inherently dangerous act? It is not the movies and it's not PlayStation," he said.

Mohammad's mum broke down in the Supreme Court, sitting in Geelong, as details of her son's injuries were read out on Tuesday.

His sisters spoke through tears about how their younger brother reminded them of their late father.

His mother was in hospital, being treated for a heart condition, when her son died.

"Not only did the stabs that punctured Mohammed's heart and body kill him, but they also broke my heart into a thousand pieces and killed my hope for living," she said in a statement.

Mohammed and a group of friends had made plans to meet Mainyal, Wal and their friends at the Corio shopping centre on August 23, 2020, to fight each other.

Prosecutor Ray Gibson said versions differed on who started the fight but punches were thrown before Mohammad was stabbed in the chest.

He took a few steps back, crying out in Dari "I've been stabbed with a weapon". He fell to the ground and his friends retreated toward the shops.

They were initially pursued by the other group who then spotted Mohammad alone in the car park and circled him.

Wal stabbed Mohammad in the armpit, and Mainyal stabbed him in the leg.

They fled, throwing the knives into gutters and down stormwater drains before heading back to one of the boy's homes.

They'll be sentenced at a later date.
