WNBL adopts rolling fixture for remainder of disrupted season

THE remaining fixture of what will now be a condensed WNBL season will be rolled out in two-week blocks.

The WNBL season has been severely disrupted by COVID, with 16 games having had to either be postponed and re-scheduled or cancelled.

As such, what had been originally a season where all teams would play 21 games has now been shortened to 18 games per team - nine home and nine away, with the regular season finishing on March 16 and the finals tipping off on March 19.

Due to the ongoing uncertainty around COVID and state border restrictions, the WNBL announced this week that there will be a rolling fixture for the remainder of the season released in two-week blocks.

"As a league we are 100 per cent committed to completing the season and are working tirelessly behind the scenes to make that happen," WNBL head Christy Collier-Hill said.

The rolling fixture has the Bendigo Spirit's next three games mapped out, which includes two interstate trips:

Saturday, February 5 - v Adelaide (a).

Saturday, February 12 - v Perth (h).

Thursday, February 17 - v Townsville (a).

It is proving to be another challenging season for the Spirit, who are on the bottom of the ladder and having lost six games in a row following last Saturday's eight-point defeat to Perth in Ballarat.
