They will need to travel north before doing a U-turn at Belvoir Park Road to continue their journey south.
Workers need to fix damage caused by the severe weather that hit the region late last week.
Central Victoria was subjected to three days of thunderstorms and at times heavy rain that triggered flash flooding at homes in Bendigo and Castlemaine.
The detour is expected to remain in place for one day but the Department of Transport says roadworks could continue at the Ravenswood Interchange for a week.
The interchange connects the Calder Alternative Highway and the Calder Freeway at a huge roundabout south of Bendigo.
Motorists will be asked to reduce their speeds to 40km/h as they pass the roadworks.
They should allow an extra 10 minutes for their journey, the department has advised.
