IT was a successful weekend for childhood vaccinations at Bendigo Health's Mollison Street clinic as parents and guardians rushed to get their children vaccinated ahead of their first day of school.
Bendigo Health Public Health Unit deputy chief medical officer Daryl Kroschel said parents and children still welcomed the opportunity to be vaccinated before the start of the school year.

"While it was unfortunate the pop up clinic could not operate as planned, the Mollison Street site was only three kilometres from the Kennington Primary School site so the disruption was minimal," he said.
"Our staff are also familiar with the Mollison Street site so it was a reversion to business as usual."
The Bendigo clinic took over 150 walk-ins and 260 bookings from the pop-up clinic.
Dr Kroschel said all bookings at Kennington Primary School were honoured at Mollison Street, and no paediatric walk-ins were turned away either.
"Any parent who wanted their child to be vaccinated was vaccinated," he said.
"The Loddon Mallee Public Health Unit is very supportive of future pop-up clinics to increase access for children aged 5-11 to vaccinations.
"It was difficult to pre-empt the weather conditions, and future sites will still be assessed as to their suitability in extreme weather conditions.
Other news:
"Health facilities tend to run at a lower ambient temperature to reduce the risk of complications associated with procedures."
Dr Kroschel said the decision to relocate to Mollison Street was not taken lightly, but undertaken in the best interests of Bendigo Health staff and children.
Bendigo Health chair Bob Cameron said last week, many parents in the region have responded highly to COVID-19 childhood vaccinations.
"It's fantastic to see such a strong response surrounding childhood vaccination and there is a lot of demand at the moment from the community," he said.
To date, more than a third of children aged 5-11 in Victoria have already received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
