Greater Bendigo daily coronavirus case numbers continue to drop on Monday as the region has recorded 80 new cases in the last 24 hours, bringing it's total active cases to 1097.

This is a sharp drop from the 195 cases recorded on Saturday.

According to data from the Department of Health, Macedon Ranges had 30 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours and Campaspe Shire had 41.

Overnight, both Buloke and Ganawarra shires recorded two new cases, while Central Goldfields reported seven.

There were 12 new cases reported in Mount Alexander overnight.

In good news, Loddon Shire recorded zero new cases but still has 24 active cases.

VICTORIA recorded another 11,695 new COVID-19 cases overnight.

The new infections were detected from 7,207 at-home rapid antigen tests and 4,488 laboratory-run PCR tests.

Great Bendigo active case numbers rose slightly yesterday, as the region recorded 144 new cases on Sunday.

Sadly, another 17 people have died from the virus and its complications, according to Department of Health statistics.

A total of 988 people are in hospital with COVID-19, 119 in intensive care and 47 on ventilators.

Over 22,000 received a vaccine dose yesterday, taking the total people to receive their third dose to 32%.

Over the weekend, the state government announced a back to school plan which will see all students returning to face to face education on January 31.

The plan features mandatory staff vaccination, masks requirements, surveillance testing and a focus on outdoor learning, and will be reviewed by public health teams in four weeks.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Education James Merlino said as part of the surveillance testing system, 14 million rapid antigen tests will be delivered to schools and early learning centres for free, with 6.6 million tests to be delivered on day one.

It's also heating up across central Victoria as train services across the regional rail network are expected to run to extreme heat timetables today.
