Bendigo Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a suspicious house fire in Golden Square on Wednesday morning.
Acting Senior Sergeant Tony Kekich said a patrolling police unit first observed the fire at the property just before 2am.

"Patrolling police found the fire at about 1.50am, a sergeant on patrol noticed some smoke, went to the area and found the house fully engulfed in flames," he said.
"The house was completely destroyed and didn't effect any surrounding properties, neighbors were evacuated."
Acting Senior Sergeant Kekich said the house was unoccupied at the time.
"The fire is being treated as suspicious and the investigation is ongoing by the Bendigo CIU."

A GOLDEN Square house was extensively damaged in a fire early on Wednesday.
Firefighters were called to a vacant property on the corner of Symonds Street and Mackenzie Street West about 1.50am.
Five CFA fire trucks and members from Golden Square, Bendigo and Kangaroo Flat brigades were supported by FRV.
The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
