BTC is planning to join with its youth group - Tribe Youth Theatre - to perform Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at Ulumbarra in July.

It will be the first time BTC and Tribe have united for a production.

"The cast of kids, families and Oompa Loompas works well for Tribe and gives them that big stage experience while working with some of the older actors," BTC president Bevan Madden said.

"Everyone is BTC member it just depends on whether you perform under BTC or Tribe. To get them together is an exciting opportunity.

"It all came from the show, we saw the rights for Charlie were available, so applied for them and got them. When applied thought would be a great opportunity."

Mr Madden said Charlie and the Chocolate Factory would be a great family show.

"Our last two shows - Wicked and We Will Rock You - both have mature themes and adult casts," he said. "The last (BTC) show we did with kids was Fiddler on the Roof and before that was Mary Poppins.

"Roald Dahl is known by everyone who has a family or was a kid. It's a fantastic story and there's so many exciting things we can do with the tech. We floating around ideas to bring the magic to life."

In September, BTC's Tribe Youth Theatre will take to The Capital's stage for the first time when it performs the wizard-inspired comedy play Puffs.

Puffs, which takes place at an certain school of magic in the world of a famous wizarding boy, was written in 2017 and was staged in Melbourne in 2018.

"We haven't done a Tribe play for a couple of years. We're really excited for Puffs and to tell the story of those were around that certain boy wizard," Mr Madden said. "For a play for kids, it's really good training for the intensity of plays and with Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in Melbourne, it ties i really well.

"We have haven't done a play at The Capital for a long time and the appeal of a wizarding school story is something everyone loves.

"I went and saw Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in December and watching that has given me a lot of ideas of things we could pull off. It is technical wizardry what they are doing but there are simple tricks we could pick up."

Ahead of the July production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, BTC will stage previously postponed legal drama Beyond Reasonable Doubt in March and its annual season of one-act plays Tenx10 in April.

On January 16, Tribe will stage Cats after having its production rescheduled a number of times since 2020.

BTC president Bevan Madden said the company has avoided unveiling an entire theatre season due to the uncertainty of the coronavirus pandemic.

"It's about playing it safe and not getting hopes up after the last two years," he said.

"There is still one play from 2020 season - comedy Two and Two Make Sex -we haven't put on, which will hopefully be 2023 but there is no certainty on that yet.

"We're trying to make sure we are not biting off more than we can chew after the last two years. We want to make sure we have the people and resources to put on these shows. By joining musicals we're not stretching ourselves as thin.

"There might be other small projects that pop up here or there but none of it is cemented."
