The Strathfieldsaye paceman was called-up by the Stars as a replacement player because of the club's COVID-19 issues.
The 24-year-old played his first BBL game in Sunday's match against the Perth Scorchers at the Junction Oval.
It appeared as though he'd claimed his first wicket midway through his second over when the umpire Bruce Oxenford raised his finger for a caught behind appeal on Perth skipper Ashton Turner.
However, within seconds Oxenford changed his mind and his decision and Turner stayed at the crease.
Crone had bowled a well-placed bouncer that, at first glance, appeared to grab Turner's edge or glove and was caught by keeper Joe Clarke.
Turner indicated straight away that the ball had clipped his helmet and umpire Oxenford agreed.
"I knew straight away that I'd made the wrong decision,'' Oxenford said to Stars' skipper Glenn Maxwell.

Crone did a solid job with the ball on debut.
He bowled two overs for 16 runs in the Scorchers' total of 8-180.
Six of those 16 runs came from a towering six down the ground hit by Perth import Colin Munro.
In reply to Perth's total, the Stars were bowled out for 130.
Crone batted at number eight and walked to the crease with the Stars requiring 20 runs per over.
He made one run off four balls before being run out in a mix-up with Qais Ahmed.
Crone, Charlie Wakim, Justin Avendano, Lachlan Bangs, Tom Rogers and Patrick Rowe were added to the Stars' squad on Sunday because 10 players were unavailable through COVID-19 protocols.
Eight Stars' staff members also remain in isolation after returning positive PCR tests for COVID-19.
Crone could play his second BBL game in as many days when the Stars play the Melbourne Renegades at the MCG on Monday night.
The Renegades named have named an extended squad for the crosstown derby, with Bendigo's James Seymour included in an 18-player group.
