TRAVELLING on Bendigo's train line is more expensive after the state government lifted a COVID-19 fare freeze.
Daily train fares increased 80 cents on New Year's Day, but shadow minister for transport Steph Ryan has warned that that could impact the state's COVID-19 recovery by adding $104 to some worker's yearly travel plans into Melbourne.

"We should be encouraging locals to find more reasons to choose public transport to travel, not less," she said.
Public Transport Victoria said price rises were needed to help account for inflation.
"Public transport fares contribute to the ongoing operation of the trains, trams and buses on our network and ensure we can continue to deliver a fair and sustainable service for all Victorians," the group said in a statement.
