Herbert won twice in 2021 - an all-the-way victory in the Irish Open on the European Tour and a breakthrough win on the PGA Tour in the Bermuda Championship.
After starting 2021 with a world ranking of 70, Herbert heads into 2022 with a career-high ranking of 41.
He's now the third-highest ranked Australian behind Cameron Smith (21) and Marc Leishman (36).
Herbert, 26, is now ranked ahead of major champions Justin Rose (43), Sergio Garcia (45) and Adam Scott (46).
He now holds a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour and will play in all four major championships in 2022, including a debut at the US Masters at Augusta.
Herbert's stunning season helped earn his coach Dominic Azzopardi the Australian Golf Digest Coach of the Year honour.
After Herbert missed the cut in his first two PGA Tour events, Azzopardi travelled to the US to work with Herbert on his swing.
Two weeks later Herbert won in Bermuda.
Azzopardi coached at Eaglehawk Golf Club early in his coaching career and is now based on the Sunshine Coast.
Herbert returns to the US this weekend for the resumption of the PGA Tour season.
