The WNBL announced on Tuesday morning that the Wednesday night match will be rescheduled after a Flames team member returned a positive COVID-19 test result.
As per New South Wales Health protocols, the Flames team member is now in isolation with the rest of the group now deemed as casual contacts and will undergo testing before the resumption of training.
As there is a delay in accessing test results, it has given the league no other choice but to reschedule the match for a later date.
Flames owner Paul Smith said health and safety was the number one priority.
"The decision to delay the game has been made in line with WNBL guidelines," Smith said.
"The health and safety of the players, coaches, clubs, staff and fans is our main priority.
"The club will continue to follow the advice of health authorities and further testing will be carried out on any individuals impacted or those deemed close contacts."
All Flames players and staff are double vaccinated.
Spirit were headed into the match against Sydney on the back of a loss to Canberra last Wednesday.
Anneli Maley was a deserved winner of the WNBL Player of the Week after her brilliant performance in the Spirit's loss to the Capitals.
The power forward had a career-high 38 points, 20 rebounds and four assists.
Bendigo Spirit coach Tracy York said Maley's outstanding statistics were a reward for her unwavering effort and that team-mates should be inspired by her hard work.
"Regardless of the scoreline we need to have that type of effort all night,'' York said.
Maley leads the league in scoring - averaging 20 points per game - and in rebounding - averaging 14.5 boards per match.
Offensively, as a team the Spirit are averaging a respectable 72.5 points per game.
However, defensively they're having trouble restricting opponents.
Through four matches the Spirit are conceding 83 points per game - the second worst record in the WNBL behind the Southside Flyers.
