More than 11 Fire Rescue Victoria firefighters responded to an incident in Long Gully on Sunday morning after a caller to Triple Zero reported a fire.
An FRV spokesperson said they and CFA crews arrived at the Cunneen Street address just after 2.15am to find flames issuing from a single storey brick residence.
Crews worked to attack the fire, bringing it under control just after 4.00am.
Firefighters remained on scene for some time into the morning to make the scene safe, before handing over to Victoria Police.
One patient was transported to hospital in the care of Ambulance Victoria paramedics.

A house is fully ablaze in Long Gully in the early hours of Boxing Day.
Multiple fire crews are on scene in Cunneen Street, following reports of a fire at the home.
It is not yet clear what caused the blaze or whether people were inside at the time that flames took hold.
Ambulance Victoria has been called to the scene.
Two firefighting appliances are at the scene and another is on its way.
