Hickman was in fourth place in the main race, but with five laps to go a broken axle on turn three caused havoc.
The incident almost ultimately destroyed the Hickman Motorsport car - but Hickman was able to walk away from the crash unscathed.
Prior to the crash Hickman posted strong qualification times to end up fifth.
He then backed it up with a solid win in the heat race from second position which set himself up for a ninth-place start in the main race.
"Such a disappointing end to what was looking to be a really solid night for the V40 Team," HIckman V40 posted to the team's fans on social media."
