Jake Allan Daniels, 31, appeared in the Bendigo Magistrates' Court last week where he pleaded guilty to trafficking methamphetamine, knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime, and possessing a drug of dependence.

The court heard about 7.20am on December 7, Central Victorian Response detectives searched a property on Simpsons Road in Eaglehawk.

Daniels was asleep in a back shed when police arrived. The 31-year-old had been living at the property for a couple of months.

The detective saw Daniels trying to hide a vitamin container in his shorts pocket.

When the 31-year-old handed it over, officers found a white crystal substance that was confirmed to be 52 grams of methamphetamine.

Police also found and seized scales, three 20ml vials containing liquid steroids, $300 in cash, drug paraphernalia, and a money collecting machine.

Daniels was arrested and interviewed. He told police he was trafficking methamphetamine to survive and fund his own drug habit.

Defence lawyer Robert Timms told the court Daniels had spent a considerable amount of time in and out of custody.

Mr Timms said the 31-year-old had a "damaged life" and had struggled with a drug addiction.

The defence lawyer said Daniels had realised he needed to abstain from drugs to get his life back on track.

Mr Timms said given his client's extensive and relevant criminal history, the only appropriate sentence would be a jail term.

Magistrate Trieu Huynh said Daniels had a problematic history and the weight of the found drugs was considerable.

Mr Huynh said it appeared that a jail term with a non-parole period was the most appropriate sentence.

But the magistrate said he would be looking at a longer than normal parole period so Daniels could be supported through his rehabilitation.

Mr Huynh said he would need some time to consider the exact sentence.

The case was adjourned to next month and Daniels was remanded in custody.
