Andrew Martin will start Saturday's third round of the Gippsland Super 6 five shots behind leader Chris Wood.
Martin fired a three-under 67 round on Friday afternoon - which included only one bogey.
The 37-year-old Bendigo-raised golfer made the turn at one-under before finishing the back at two-under to finish the second day of the tournament at seven-under par total.
Martin carded a four-under 66 on Thursday during round one.
He will have plenty of work to do on Saturday to remain close to leader Wood - winner of the 2020 Axedale Pro-Am - who is 12-under after shooting an impressive 61 off the stick on Friday.
The unique format for the Gippsland Super 6 includes three rounds of stroke play before switching to match play for Sunday's final round where the top 24 players compete in six-hole matches.
