After the Bendigo Spirit bounced over the Melbourne Boomers last week in a thrilling five-point win, veteran player Tessa Lavey said it was recognition of the team's persistent effort to succeed.
"The win really was a reward for our fans, family, friends and everyone that's involved with the Spirit," Lavey said.
"It shows how much effort we've put in behind the scenes at training and that the hard work is paying off."
Spirit defeated the Boomers 63-58 in what was a close match from start to finish.

Spirit led for most of the match, but in the final minutes the Boomers were back within striking distance.
However, Spirit denied the visitors a chance at victory and took out the game thanks to bolstered defensive efforts.
Lavey said the strong mentality of the Spirit players helped Bendigo secure the triumphant home court win last Wednesday.
"It really came down to our mindset," she said.
"We all went into the game focused on doing the best one-on-one defence possible while also helping each other when needed."
Spirit's match MVP went to Anneli Maley who scored 18 points and took 13 rebounds to notch a double-double.
Lavey was the next highest scorer on 12 points and five rebounds, followed by Maddie Garrick on 11 points.
Spirit are currently 1-1 so far this season after being defeated in round one by reigning champions Southside Flyers and the most recent win over the Boomers.
They return to their home court this Sunday for the third game of the season - a rematch against the Boomers.
Lavey said the team was prepared for the Boomers who head into the game eager to get one back.
"There's no doubt they will try some different plays against us, but we will respond and throw different things back," she said.
"The key will be to ensure we don't start on the back foot and head into the game ready to play.
"We thrive in tough environments and love a good challenge. This is going to be a great game for our fans to come and watch.
Joining the Spirit for the Sunday clash will be the team's most recent signing - Alex Wilson.
The 25-year-old is a two-time WNBL Champion (Townsville 2015 and Sydney 2017) and has years of experience on the court - in addition to attending the Australian Institute of Sport alongside Lavey.
"Alex brings a lot of energy to the court especially in terms of defence," Lavey said.
"Overall she is an extremely experienced player who has poise on the court.
"I can't wait for our fans to see what she is going to bring to the team."
It's been a busy 12 months for 28-year-old Lavey who headed into the WNBL season after playing with the Australian Opals at the Tokyo Olympics and earlier in the year debuting in the AFLW with the Richmond Football Club.
