A SERIES of free festive lunches and dinners will be held in the lead-up to Christmas to help Bendigo residents get into the spirit of the season.
Greater Bendigo mayor Andrea Metcalf said residents who were unable to be close to loved ones this year would be especially welcome at the free events.

She said she hoped people who were alone, feeling isolated or facing financial difficulties would attend.

Cr Metcalf said the community meal events aimed to help people connect and were always popular.
"We know that COVID-19 has brought a lot of change and new challenges for many people,'' she said.
"And these are free events that would not be possible without the generous support from local businesses and volunteers from our municipality.
"We are fortunate in Greater Bendigo to have great community groups supporting residents who may not have people to celebrate with during the festive season."
