Winless through the opening four rounds of the division one season, the Rams needed a spark and Grundy provided it.

The Huntly-North Epsom opening batsman made a steady start to be 14 off 17 balls before going up a gear and belting the Mandurang attack to all parts of the Club Court Oval.

From his next 54 balls faced, Grundy smashed 83 runs before he was clean bowled by James Bailey for 97 off 61 balls.

Grundy, who fell with 13 balls remaining in the innings, hit four sixes and nine fours.

Jordan Ilsley (24 off 17 balls) and Steven Stroobants (21 not out off 14 balls) also kept the scoreboard ticking over as the Rams reached 4-168.

James Pietromonaco didn't get a wicket, but he was clearly Mandurang's best bowler, conceding just 18 runs from his four overs.

In reply, Mandurang gave itself a solid foundation when it reached 1-79 at the halfway mark.

However, unlike Grundy, none of Mandurang's top-order could push on and make a big score.

Linton Colclough (23 off 16), Phil Berry (38 off 32) and Corey Dickins (31 off 23) all made good starts, but lost their wickets at crucial times.

From 1-84 the visitors lost 6-25 and any hope of winning the game.

The key with the ball for Sedgwick was Bailey Ilsley, who took 3-12 from his four overs, including the wickets of Colclough, Dickins and Mandurang marquee player Miggy Podosky.

Mandurang finished 34 runs short at 8-134 from its 20 overs.

Runs were at a premium in the West Bendigo versus Axe Creek clash at Ken Wust Oval.

After sending Axe Creek into bat, West Bendigo dismissed the visitors for just 92.

The star of the show for the Redbacks was opening bowler Matthew Floyd, who picked up 5-22 from his four overs, including the prized wicket of marquee player Kyle Humphrys for 13.

Axe Creek did reach 1-42, but the lost its final nine wickets for 50 to be all out for 92 with four overs remaining.

Josh Leech had a good night with the ball for the Redbacks, claiming 3-7.

West Bendigo made hard work of the run chase.

Marquee player Matt Dwyer (2 off 14 balls) battled and a steady stream of wickets saw the home slip to 8-71 with three overs remaining.

Matt Gallagher and Matthew Floyd held their nerve.

A six from Gallagher eased the pressure and they whittled the equation down to six runs to win off the final over from Jesse Trenfield.

The West Bendigo duo scampered three singles off the first three deliveries before a dot ball on the fourth delivery increased the pressure on the Redbacks.

Fittingly, it was Floyd (11 not out) who capped a great game by hitting a four off the penultimate ball of the match to win the game for the Redbacks.

Gallagher finished 25 not out for West Bendigo, while Khushdeep Randhwa (3-11) and Trenfield (2-12) bowled well for Axe Creek.

Spring Gully bounced back from its first loss of the division one season to account for California Gully.

The Crows' bowlers restricted the Cobras to 9-134.

Brad Webster was the standout with the bat for the Cobras, thumping 54 off just 34 balls, while opener Justin Bice added 33 off 21 balls.

Jake Donegan (4-12) had a night out with the ball for Spring Gully.

Openers Lachlan Brook and Brannon Stanford put the Crows on a fast track to victory by adding 89 for the first wicket in 11 overs.

Stanford's departure for 52 off 36 balls didn't hinder the Crows' momentum.

Brook finished unbeaten on 66 off 37 balls, with 54 of his runs coming in fours and sixes.

Marquee player Harry Donegan added 16 not out as the Crows cruised to victory with 33 balls to spare.

United had few troubles in disposing of Marong.

The Tigers dismissed the Panthers for 109 after the visitors had been 0-41.

Andrew Gladstone (27) and Adam Brown (24) were the only Marong batters to find form. Harry Whittle (4-19) and Kane Goldsworthy (3-9) were the chief wicket-takers for United.

United needed just 14.1 overs to chase down the total.

Broderick Williams (40 off 29 balls) and Harry Whittle (38 not out off 20 balls) relished their time in the middle.

Round two will be played next Tuesday night.

Emu Creek plays United, Axe Creek is at home to California Gully, Sedgwick travels to Marong and Spring Gully hosts West Bendigo.
