THE talented Jamie Coles led the charge of the "young brigade" in the Sens Jewellers Wheelrace 1600m final at Thursday night's Bendigo and District Cycling Club track racing.

From a mark of 110m, Coles worked hard from the gun as he raced around the Tom Flood Sports Centre track in Barnard Street.
Four riders who began from marks ranging from 110m to 180m featured in the first five across the line.
A sponsor of the race, along with his brother Paul, Noel Sens commentated the action in which Coles won the sprint finish from Belinda Bailey (180m), Toby McCaig (160m) and Zaren Fong-Sutton (270m).
Two riders with long-time links to Bendigo and District Cycling Club showed great form in the final.
Toby McCaig is the second son of Bendigo International Madison CEO, Rik McCaig, and grandson of the late Frank McCaig.
Fifth in the Sens Jewellers final, Emerson Julian again rode strongly from the 120m mark.
Emerson is the grandson of Ross Harding, a long-time competitor who also played a key role off the road and track for the club.
The night's racing began with the DCK Real Estate-backed Crystal Classic women's wheelrace (1000m).
From a mark of 120m, Billie Russell powered to victory ahead of the in-form Maddie Douglas (130), Lily Keating (185) and Belinda Bailey (40m).
Ride of the night honours went to Isaac Buckell who won the A-grade 10-lap and 15-lap scratch races as his brother, Sam, was runner-up.
The under 11-13 600m handicap was won by Cadence Benjamin from Corey Larson and Jimmy Byrne.
Honours in the under 15-17 1200m handicap went to Chase Hadden as Bryce Nicholls and Jack Ketterer were next best.
Feature event at this Thursday December 9 racing for seniors will be the action-packed Moroni's Bikes Wheelrace (2000m).
Support events are motorpace and scratch races.
Juniors will contest scratch races and wheelrace heats and finals.
Action begins with juniors at 6.30pm and seniors from about 7.15pm.
Free entry for spectators.
