The event was cancelled in 2019 due to anti-terrorism costs, including the requirement for expensive bollards and concrete barriers along parts of the course.
The event, previously known as the Bendigo Bank Fun Run, is being organised by the newly created Rosalind Events company.
The previous fun run course director, Hunter Gill, was at the launch of the new event - now the Bendigo Ford Fun Run, this morning.
"It's great to see it has been revived,'' he said.
The fun run will raise money for the Bendigo Health children's ward.
The hospital's fundraising foundation manager Rachel Mason said she hoped the event would raise $30,000 to buy specialist equipment to alleviate discomfort for young patients. The run will be held on March 6, 2022.
"We appreciate that a lot of work goes into these fun runs,'' she said.
"We are truly grateful because you are the experts in running these events. We need support from the community for these things and we are the beneficiary of the fun run."
The new organisers, Nigel Preston and Geoff O'Sullivan, are well known for their work on other projects including the O'Keefe Challenge from Bendigo to Healthcote and the popular Bendigo Cycling Classic.
The men paid tribute to Mr Gill's efforts which guided the fun run event for a decade before its closure.
"Hunter Gill put in hundreds of hours to put together previous fun runs and we stand on the shoulders of giants,'' Mr Preston said.
Mr Preston said the new course layout had been designed to avoid areas that were especially vulnerable to attack, thereby minimising the need for the most expensive counter-terrorism measures.
"We will still need to use some vehicles and trucks and bollards to provide safety for people,'' he said.
The course will start and finish in Bendigo's Rosalind Park. The events include a 1km kids dash, a 5km fun run and walk, a 10km run, a half marathon and a 21.1km four-leg relay.
