Police said between August 27 and 28, unknown offenders had allegedly gained access to Skilly's Auto in Heathcote and stole a 2000 red Nissan Patrol.
More news:
"The offenders have gained access and stolen the 2000 red Nissan Patrol ute. The vehicle had one set of keys which the automotive yard still had in their possession," a spokesperson said.
Police said the ute is distinctive as it had been re-done up by the owner with a dark Holden VE series coloured paint in 'sizzle red'.
"The ute also has a black tray with a rounded frame on top and the base of the tray is red in colour. The ute has silver boxes on each side of the tray, a long LED light bar mounted on the roof, a black snorkel on the passenger side of the bonnet, a front winch, Kings driving lights mounted on the bull bar and a custom made bull bar," a spokesperson said.
Police believe a sighting of the ute occurred by a camper on the C526 Abbeyards Road in Wonnangatta on October 30.
"The Nissan Patrol was in convoy with an 80 series Landcruiser bearing no front plate and a 79 series Landcruiser dark in colour. All vehicles were travelling at a fast rate of speed into the High Country area," the spokesperson said.
The vehicles Western Australian registration is SW443.
