The officer, who The Bendigo Advertiser has been ordered not to identify, appeared in the Bendigo Magistrates' Court on Wednesday for the third day of a committal hearing.

The man is contesting charges of rape, assault, intentionally and recklessly causing injury, and damaging property. The offending was alleged to have occurred over 11 years.

The charges followed an investigation by Victoria Police's Taskforce Salus, which dealt with allegations of sexual predatory behaviour and serious sexual harassment and discrimination involving police.

The court was closed to the media when the alleged victim gave evidence on Monday and Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the alleged victim's mother told the magistrate her daughter had to be taken to hospital after the officer allegedly kicked a laptop into her stomach about 10 years ago.

The woman said her daughter had been pregnant at the time with the couple's first child.

She said her daughter initially said it was an accident, but changed her story after the woman pressed her with questions, instead saying the alleged incident happened in the context of an argument.

The alleged victim's father, who also gave evidence to the court, said he saw bruising on his daughter's arms on at least one occasion.

The man said his daughter also told him that she had ripped her partner's t-shirt and scratched him during an argument.

A mental health social worker, who had been treating the alleged victim since 2008, also gave evidence to the court on Wednesday.

The worker told the court that in January 2019, the woman disclosed allegations of being raped by the accused.

The worker said the woman was visibly distressed when she described being pinned down and unable to fight off the man.

When questioned by the defence counsel, the worker told the court that the alleged victim had been hospitalised after a suicide attempt in 2008.

The social worker also told the magistrate the alleged victim was taking antidepressants and antipsychotic medication to assist with sleeping.

The committal hearing is due to continue at the Bendigo Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

At the end of the hearing, the magistrate will decide whether there is enough evidence for the case to proceed to trial in the County Court.
