Xavier Crone's potential Sheffield Shield debut for Victoria has been delayed because of a COVID-19 case.
The Victoria versus New South Wales game at the Sydney Cricket Ground was scheduled to begin at 10.30am Friday morning, but Cricket Australia was forced to postpone the start of play after Victorian bowler Will Sutherland tested positive for COVID-19.
"The Marsh Sheffield Shield match between New South Wales and Victoria at the Sydney Cricket Ground, scheduled to begin today, has been postponed due to a possible COVID-19 case in the Victorian side," Cricket Australia said in a statement.
"In the course of routine COVID-19 testing, Will Sutherland has returned a test result which requires further analysis. The Victorian team is currently self-isolating while this analysis and investigation takes place.
"Cricket Australia will provide further updates in due course."
Former Bendigo opening batsman James Seymour, fresh from his maiden first-class century against NSW last week, will play his fourth Shield game for Victoria if the game is given the green light to be played.
Heavy rain is forecast for Sydney over the weekend.
