Only two half-centuries were made for the round, while three of the league's best spinners had a day out with the ball.
Here's the Bendigo Advertiser's BDCA Team of the Week for round one:
1. Josh Williams (Eaglehawk)
The classy all-rounder opened the batting and the bowling in the Hawks' impressive first-up win over Bendigo.
Williams made a patient 59 off 92 balls with the bat and then removed the Bendigo openers with the new ball as the Borough cruised to a 133-run win.
2. Russell Stockdale (Eaglehawk)
Stockdale set the tone for the Hawks, with a blistering 45 off 44 balls at the top of the order in a 79-run stand with Williams.
He capped a fine opening day by cleaning up the Bendigo tail with his leg-spinners. He took 4-13 off 4.4 overs
3. Riley Treloar (Bendigo United)
The left-hander played a match-defining innings in the Redbacks' seven-run win over Kangaroo Flat.
In a game where plenty of batters made starts, Treloar was the only player to make more than 50.
His 74 off as many balls included nine fours and two sixes and gave the Redback innings some much-needed impetus.

4. Cam Taylor (Strathdale-Maristians)
Runs with the bat and wickets with the ball - a standard Saturday afternoon for the Suns' first season skipper.
Taylor claimed 4-18 with the ball before making an unbeaten 35 at number four in Strathdale's eight-wicket win over Sandhurst.
5. Adam Ward (Huntly-North Epsom)
The Power don't have the depth of previous seasons, but in Ward they still have one of the most dangerous players in the competition.
Ward smashed three sixes and three fours on his way to 58 off 67 balls in the Power's final-ball loss to Golden Square. He also picked up two wickets with the ball.
6. Daniel Barber (Kangaroo Flat)
Confidence-boosting innings of 44 for the Roos' top-order player.
After a lean run with the bat last summer, Barber hit seven fours in his 54-ball stay against Bendigo United.
7. Linton Jacobs (Strathdale-Maristians)
The Suns' veteran gets the nod as wicket-keeper for round one after completing four dismissals against Sandhurst.
Jacobs took three catches and whipped the bails off for a stumping off the bowling of his old mate Cam Taylor.
8. Brent Hamblin (Kangaroo Flat)
After a brilliant individual season last summer, the Roos' speedster claimed 4-38 off his nine overs in a fine start to the 2021-22 season.
9. Jake DeAraugo (Strathdale-Maristians)
Other players took more wickets, but DeAraugo's impact on the game was more significant than his figures of 1-13 off nine overs showed.
He took the ball with Sandhurst in control at 1-45 off 10 overs and claimed the crucial wicket of Dragons' skipper Joel Murphy for 32.
DeAraugo created plenty of pressure with his tight bowling and Taylor cashed in with wickets at the other end.
10. Darcy Hunter (Strathfieldsaye)
The leg-spinner took career-best figures of 6-29 in the Jets' demolition of White Hills.
Hunter's control and flight was on song and he made the most of some dumb batting from the Demons.
11. Jed Rodda (Strathfieldsaye)
While Hunter had the best figures, it was Rodda who did all the early damage for the Jets.
He picked up the first three wickets of the day in his haul of 3-13, including a cracker to clean bowl Demons' star Gavin Bowles.
Round two action this Saturday:
Strathdale-Maristians v White Hills
Strathfieldsaye v Bendigo United
Huntly-North Epsom v Sandhurst
Bendigo v Golden Square
Kangaroo Flat v Eaglehawk
