After the cancellation of the Energy Breakthrough for the second year in a row due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it marks nearly 18 months since they've last raced.
The 45-strong crew of students have now taken it upon themselves to get back to action and are hosting their own Survival of the Fittest human-powered race on Thursday and Friday on the school's oval.
The event will see them race for 24 hours in total - 12 hours each on Thursday and Friday - all for the purpose of fundraising for the Movember Foundation.
WCB energy breakthrough coordinator Jack McIntosh said the students had shown exemplary initiative by organising the event.
"They've also just ticked over their goal of raising $3000 and are really looking forward to two big 12-hour days of racing," he said.
The students will compete in different teams with pilots each doing rotating 45-minute stints in the vehicle which is solely powered by humans.
The crews begin the challenge at 8am on Thursday morning and will compete until 8pm, before returning on Friday morning for another 12-hour stint.
The students learn how to pilot, build and maintain the vehicles which are primarily made of light-weight chromoly.
