On Wednesday, October 13, police said a woman was home alone with her dog when she observed an unknown man at the back of her McCrae Street address about 11.20pm.
More news:
Detectives said the man allegedly entered and approached the woman's lounge room with a large knife in his hand.
"The male offender threatened the woman and made demands for cash," detectives said.
"The woman's dog then lunged at the offender and grabbed his arm, before pulling him outside of the home ... she then locked the back door after her dog ran back inside."
Detectives said the unknown man ran off via a side gate before fleeing in an unknown direction.
As part of their ongoing investigation, detectives have released a computer-generated image of a man who they believe can assist with their inquiries.
The man is perceived to be Caucasian in appearance, about 180cm tall with a slim face, dark brown eyes and approximately 35-40 years old.
He was wearing a dark beanie, a black hoodie, blue jeans and a black coat at the time.
More crime news:
The knife he was carrying had serrated edges and a red handle.
Detectives are investigating whether the incident was a case of mistaken identity.
