The Vixens on Wednesday added four squad members to their roster for the 2022 season, with Barkmeyer joining Jordan Cransberg, Sharni Lambden and Emily Andrew as training partners.
A further two players will be announced in coming weeks.
This will be Barkmeyer's third season with the Vixens.
She spent the 2020 season as a training partner before winning a call-up to the main squad in 2021.
The 20-year-old debuted in the Vixens' opening round contest against West Coast Fever and enjoyed a solid season in goals alongside premiership star Mwai Kumwenda and Kaylia Stanton.
While Stanton has since departed the Vixens, the 2020 premiers have signed Australian Diamonds and former Giants goaler Kiera Austin and 23-year-old Rahni Samasan, who played three games as a replacement player during 2021.
With Austin still recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, Barkmeyer is continuing to work closely with the main group, signing on as a temporary replacement player.
Netball Victoria general manager - Vixens, performance and pathways Rebekah Webster said the club was excited to have signed all four young and exciting talents.
"We have seen what Ruby is capable of throughout this year and we're committed to her continued development as an elite athlete," she said.
"We have a couple of new faces stepping up into the Vixens program next year and we are eager to see what they can produce, keeping in mind a lot of these athletes have had limited netball over the past two years due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
"These athletes have shown nothing but dedication and persistence to put their netball first and we can't wait to get started."
Barkmeyer previously played locally with Kangaroo Flat where she won an A-grade premiership in 2016, and Elmore.
We have seen what Ruby is capable of throughout this year and we're committed to her continued development as an elite athlete.
