Both the Roos and Blues - who between them won just two games this year - each had a player points budget of 50, but that has been slashed back to 46 for the 2022 allocations set by AFL Central Victoria.
Across the BFNL, HDFNL, LVFNL and NCFL it's now only the Bendigo league that has a clear differential in points allocations among clubs, with five on 40 points and five on 46.
As they were this year, Eaglehawk, Gisborne, Golden Square, Sandhurst and Strathfieldsaye - the only clubs that have won senior flags since 2001 - will all have 40 points again.
Castlemaine, Kangaroo Flat, Kyneton, Maryborough and South Bendigo will all have an extra six points - the equivalent of a player who has played at least one AFL game over the previous three seasons - with 46 apiece.
While the differential between the two tiers of allocations is a way of trying to to assist with equalisation of a Bendigo competition that since 2010 has had the five "40 point teams" win 57 of the 60 finals played, there's no longer such a discrepancy across the Heathcote District, Loddon Valley or North Central leagues, the latter two of which are now on level playing fields.
All HDFNL teams are now on either 45 or 46 points, while in the LVFNL all nine teams are now on 46 points and in the NCFL all eight teams are on 42 points.
Unlike fellow AFLCV leagues Central Murray ($105,000-$135,000) and Golden Rivers ($95,000-$115,000), which have a tiered salary cap, the BFNL ($125,000), HDFNL ($106,600), LVFNL ($106,600) and NCFL ($106,000) all have a one-cap-fits-all for their teams that remain unchanged.
