Its popularity could see the King's famous peanut butter, banana and bacon sandwiches, jumpsuit-based fashion and Elvis memorabilia become a regular feature along View Street.
In 2016, the Marilyn Monroe exhibition welcomed 140,000 visitors to Bendigo. It saw a tick over $13 million spent in the Bendigo region in a four-month period.
That meant businesses such as cafes, restaurants, accommodation providers, retailers and even petrol stations got some extra coins for their coffers.
With Elvis being an arguably bigger star than Marilyn, Bendigo businesses could expect a similar windfall in the first half of 2022.
The Bendigo region, like many other places, is in need of an economic boost after two lean, pandemic-affected years. It would be welcomed as Victoria's vaccination rate keeps rising and society adjusts to its new COVID-normal world.
That the Bendigo Art Gallery has been selected as the host venue is a tribute to its hard-earned reputation.
Gallery staff and their ability to work with international museums, collections and galleries to present world-class exhibitions means more and more organisations and estates are happy to have their pieces displayed in Bendigo.
It's hard to say who is a bigger celebrity or pop culture legend than Elvis. But whoever it is may already be being considered for an exhibition by the impressive Bendigo Art Gallery team.
