WEDDERBURN recruited Jordan Rosengren with the intention of playing him as a key forward in the North Central league.
Instead, Rosengren became a force in the Redbacks' midfield this year and produced a season of consistency that has earned him the No.1 spot in the Addy's 2021 NCFL player rankings.
The ranking points aim to reflect both performing consistently and playing key roles in helping teams to win games and are based off the weekly best players named by clubs after each game.
How the points work:
Winning team - 1st best (16.0 points); 2nd best (13.5); 3rd best (11.0); 4th best (8.5); 5th best (6.0); 6th best (3.5).
Losing team - 1st best (7.0); 2nd best (6.0); 3rd best (5.0); 4th best (4.0); 5th best (3.0); 6th best (2.0).
Drawn game (both teams) - 1st best (10.0); 2nd best (8.5); 3rd best (7.0); 4th best (5.5); 5th best (4.0); 6th best (2.5).
The Redbacks had the quinella with the rankings, with Rosengren taking out the top spot with 93.5 points and team-mate Jackson Guan second with 85.5 points.
"Jordan came to us as a key forward, but got himself super fit with the intention of becoming a top midfielder, which he was able to do," Wedderburn coach Danny Benaim said at the weekend.
"He became a real ball-winner for us playing both inside and outside and because he has played as a key forward before he also had the ability to kick a few goals (13) for us as well."
Of the 11 games Wedderburn played this season, Rosengren was rated among the Redbacks' top three players in eight of them.
"He was a really dangerous player around the ground with his ability to take a high mark and a strong contested mark," Benaim said.
"He was super consistent for us and I can't recall him having a bad game."
No.2 ranked Guan featured in the Redbacks' best players in nine games, the equal most of any player in the competition alongside Boort's Kieren Wilson and Charlton's Thomas Finlay.
"Jackson hasn't played a lot of footy; he was previously a golfer, but has been with us for a few years now and just keeps getting better and better," Benaim said.
"He has gone from a half-back flanker over the past few years to now rolling through the midfield and he's very similar to Jordan in that he's strong overhead, but he's lightning quick and again, he didn't have a bad game."
Rosengren and Guan are among nine Wedderburn players in the top 50, another of whom is ruckman Jordan Hargreaves (No. 28), who won the Feeny Medal.
Rosengren joins Eaglehawk's Billy Evans (Bendigo), Mitiamo's Max Simpson (Loddon Valley) and North Bendigo's Aarryn Craig (Heathcote District) to top Addy AFLCV league player rankings this year.
