COVID-19 fragments have been detected in Bendigo waste water.
The Department of Health advised there were unexpected detections between October 3 and October 6.
The affected areas include California Gully, Eaglehawk, East Bendigo, Epsom, Huntly, Jackass Flat, Junortoun, Kennington, Maiden Gully, Marong, North Bendigo, Sailors Gully, Strathdale, Strathfieldsaye, and Wellsford.
The detections could be an undiscovered new case or cases, or could be the result of one or more people in the areas who have recovered from COVID-19 but are still shedding the virus.
Anyone who lives in, works in, or has visited the areas above is urged to watch for the mildest of COVID-19 symptoms and get tested as soon as possible if symptoms develop.

FIVE new coronavirus cases have been recorded in the Greater Bendigo region
Data from the Department of Health showed there were three new cases in the 3550 postcode, along with single cases in the 3555 and 3523 postcodes.
There were a total of 12 active COVID-19 cases in Greater Bendigo on Thursday.
An additional five cases were also recorded in the Macedon Ranges Shire, along with a new case in the Campaspe region.
There were zero new cases in the Gannawarra Shire.
Earlier
REGIONAL Victoria recorded 115 new cases of coronavirus overnight, 11 of those were in the Mount Alexander Shire.
Acting Chief Health Officer Ben Cowie said there were now 707 active cases outside of Melbourne and said seven per cent of the new cases came from regional Victoria today.
Professor Cowie said the new cases recorded in the Mount Alexander Shire are currently under investigation with the acquisition source unknown.
The cases are spread across two households.
Professor Cowie said on a positive note, the majority of the active case have been linked to existing cases. They are include below:
- 11 new cases in Greater Shepparton
- 8 new cases in Ballarat, all linked to known cases.
- 16 new cases in Geelong, mostly linked to known cases
- 17 new cases in the Mitchell Shire
- 11 new cases in the Mount Alexander Shire
- 4 new cases in Mildura, all within the same household
- 15 new cases in Latrobe Valley
- 11 new cases in Baw Baw
Professor Cowie stressed that the vast majority of those who were getting sick from COVID were those who had not taken up the best preventative step.
"From the seven days to Tuesday this week, we have had about 10,000 cases of COVID-19. Of these cases, seven per cent were fully vaccinated, 15 per cent were partially vaccinated and 79 per cent were unvaccinated - no doses of vaccine," he said.
"And this is unfortunate because it is despite the fact that 87 per cent of the cases were eligible for vaccination at the time that they were diagnosed with COVID-19.
"We have the hard, underlying fact that shows how much more likely you [the unvaccinated] are to get COVID, to pass it onto your and family, and, most importantly perhaps, to end up in intensive care, tragically, to lead to further loss of life if you choose not to the vaccine."
