The BGRA has literally been swamped with entries for the second edition of the tier 3 feature, with an incredible 94 eligible nominations received last week.
Worth $5000 to the winner, the cup series is aimed at creating an opportunity for lesser-performed greyhounds and smaller and hobby-type trainers to compete for a higher stakes event and share the spotlight on a bigger stage.
Such was the response to this year's event, BGRA manager Troy Harley said this Wednesday night's meeting would be entirely made up of 12 Battler's cup heats.
"The response to the inaugural Battlers Cup was outstanding and saw 10 heats run and justified the push to conduct the race and run it alongside the Bendigo Cup," he said.
"But to get 12 heats this year, with so many racing options available, the club is extremely happy.
"The BGRA prides itself on being an industry and participant focused club and does its best to cater for all types of greyhounds where possible, so its great to see the support this race has received.
"I think it is a terrific way to kick off the Bendigo Cup Carnival with a full meeting of heats for a tier 3 feature event".
The eight fastest heat winners will progress to the final on Bendigo Cup night, on Saturday, October 16, while the four slowest heat winners and four fastest second placegetters will qualify for the consolation worth $2100 to the winner.
A total of 59 trainers have targeted the Battler's Cup, among them Broadford's Matthew Edwards and his inaugural race winner Steel Magnolia, who will line up in heat six.
A finalist last year for Harcourt owner-trainer Scott Gibson, Prince Cody will face the starter in heat 11.
Gibson also has Cornhill Rebel entered in heat five.
Wednesday nights meeting if the first of five race meetings that make up the 2021 Bendigo Cup Carnival, where more than $300,000 in stakes will be on offer across multiples feature events.
Race one on on Battler's Cup heat night is scheduled for 6.47pm.
