"We wanted to make sure we honoured the families of the two members who had passed away. The families are local people, they offer great support to Bendigo on days like this and are very much loved members of the community and the police family.
"It was a very pleasing and tasteful ceremony that hit the mark very well."
Acting Inspector Hansen said Bendigo police had also received good support from the community.
Among that support was Eaglehawk artist Stephen Brown who created a sculpture for Bendigo officers.
"During the course of the day we had a great deal of support and acknowledgment from the broader community around Bendigo," he said.
