The recognition highlights Coates' work and contribution to increasing football participation within the Bendigo district.
The announcement came after Coates was named as the Victorian winner earlier this month.
"I never expected this kind of recognition for just doing what's part of my job," she said.
"I am so grateful to whoever it was that put in the nomination."
On the back of the award and as football season comes to a close, Coates already has her eyes set on her next project.
"I'm currently in talks with local cricket coaches an we're hoping to get them into schools to help raise the bar and get more children playing cricket," she said.
"I'd really love to get more girls involved with the sport.
"I will never stop giving kids my care and finding the best possible opportunities for them."
As one of nine 2021 Toyota AFL National Volunteer Award winners, Coates receives a prize that every football fan dreams of, tickets to the 2022 Grand Final.
"I think my husband Troy is even more excited than me," Coates laughed.
"I'm not quite sure it will happen, but it certainly would be ideal for a Carlton and Collingwood clash."
