The 24-year-old man appeared in the Bendigo Magistrates' Court on Tuesday after he was charged with offences including making threats to kill.
The court heard on the morning of August 29, the man was at his family's home with his mother and girlfriend.

Police alleged the man appeared drug-affected as a verbal argument broke out between him and his mother.
The woman spoke to the man's girlfriend, who allegedly confirmed the man had taken the drug GHB.
The court heard the mother went into her son's room and found containers filled with a clear liquid.
The man entered the room and allegedly punched a hole in the wall, before leaving the property with his girlfriend.
Police alleged the man then called his mother and said, "you fat c***, I will kill you".
The man also allegedly sent text messages, telling his mother to "sleep with one eye open" and that he hoped she died in her sleep.
Police were called to the mother's home and officers seized the containers of clear liquid. The man was arrested and remanded in custody on September 11.
Senior Constable Dave Rennie told the court the man was already on a community corrections order for drug trafficking offences.
The police prosecutor said the man should not be released on bail because he was an unacceptable risk of reoffending or endangering the victim.

The man's girlfriend gave evidence to the court that the man could be bailed to the property that she lived at with her family.
When questioned, the woman told the court she had been aware of the man's drug use and had previously not told police about the illicit substances.
But the woman said she would notify police if the man was using drugs while on bail.
Defence lawyer Robyn Greensill told the court the man had been accepted into the Court Integrated Services Program, which would help him with his drug addiction while on bail.
Ms Greensill said the man's mother had also moved interstate so the risk of reoffending was reduced.
But Magistrate Alan Spillane said bail had to be refused.
Mr Spillane said the man needed committed, intensive rehabilitation for his drug addiction, which could not be provided by CISP in the current circumstances.
The magistrate said he also thought the man's girlfriend could not be trusted to do the right thing if the man was released on bail.
Mr Spillane denied bail and the man was remanded in custody. He is due to appear in the Kyneton Magistrates' Court next week.
