THE Bendigo Agricultural Show Society has announced the first online show sections in Bendigo's new Virtual Ag Show.
The Bendigo Virtual & Onsite Show will be a combination of virtual competitions and COVID-safe onsite competitions and replaces the regular Agricultural Show, which had been cancelled for a second year.
Society executive officer Ian Furze said the committee couldn't deprive local families of the fun they would usually have at the event.
"The Show Society is creating the Virtual & Onsite Show in response to growing support to conduct some of our regular show competitions in new way," he said.
"It will provide all members of the community the opportunity to enter and experience elements of an Agricultural Show without leaving their home."
He said the show committee considered a variety of options, as cooking and craft sections are very difficult to judge by photo, whereas others are ideal for a simple image upload.
The new event will see onsite competitions that will have set delivery days, when restrictions allow, be judged as normal, with judging and displays streamed online instead of being open for public viewing.
Virtual competitions will involve photographs of the nominated subject being uploaded during the online entry process. Junior sections will feature strongly and will include decorated cupcakes, and biscuits, Lego, a colouring competition and art creations using plants, fruit and vegetables.
The decorated and modified Ute competition will also be conducted virtually, with entries expected from all over Victoria.
Sections which require the actual items include the traditional competitions of fruit cakes, Anzac biscuits, jams, sauce, photography, needlework, patchwork, knitting, crochet, craft and flowers.
"Regional communities are greatly affected by the cancellations of Show's and other major events in 2020 and 2021, so we want to bring the community together to conduct a quality event which is safe, permitted and a lot of fun," Mr Furze said.
Bendigo's Virtual Ag Show would be held in October with entry opening on September 24 via the Show Society website at bendigoshow.com.au
