Mr Cameron has stepped down from the role to take up the position of chair of Coliban Water.
A new Bendigo Health chair will be determined by the minister for health early next year.
"After six and a half years as Bendigo Health Chair I have advised the Minister for Health of my intention to stand down as the chair of the Bendigo Health Board at the finalisation of the next Board Chair selection round which is due early in 2022," he said.

"I will remain Chair until that time and I will remain on the board for my entire term until mid-2024 and will continue on in my role as chair of the building committee.
"When organisations are going well, it is important to time leadership change appropriately to guarantee a smooth transition that will enable continued success."
Mr Cameron said he was proud of the Bendigo Health team and how it serves its community. He said he is keen to see the projects he has started - including the Day Rehabiliatation CEntre and Early Parenting Centre- be completed.
"These projects will finish the redevelopment of the hospital precinct and add vital services for our community," he said.
Mr Cameron said the incoming chair would have exciting opportunities ahead at Bendigo Health.
"Early next year we will be through the worst of the pandemic and it will be the time for us to re-focus on how we can evolve and grow the service to meet the needs of our community, including how we use the new the new Day Rehabilitation Centre and the opportunities it will bring," he said.
"We also will have to work through our role in the Government responses to the Aged Care Royal Commission and Mental Health Royal Commission and any funding or services changes that are required to improve these systems."
Prior to arriving at Bendigo Health, Mr Cameron served as Member for Bendigo West from 1996 to 2010.
Mr Cameron's appointment as Coliban Water chair was one of 54 new and 65 returning board appointments for the state's water and catchment management authorities made by water minister Lisa Neville on Thursday.
"Victoria's water entities have a strong history of dedicated representatives and these appointments continue our work in establishing a culture of fairness, diversity, expertise and equity," Ms Neville said.
"This group of highly qualified directors will continue to provide an excellent service to the community and support the provision of affordable, reliable water services throughout Victoria."
