THREE Kangaroo Flat aquatic centre options with a $3 million difference sit on the table for councillors to decide from.City of Greater Bendigo staff have prepared a 33-page report ahead of tomorrow night’s meeting that canvasses possible options. The first option would cost $25.8 million for a 25-metre pool and the closure of Kangaroo Flat, Long Gully and Golden Square swimming pools. It would also include construction of a Long Gully aquatic playspace. The Long Gully pool is on Department of Sustainability and Environment land and future uses would require the authority’s approval. The aquatic play space would cost about $500,000.About $1 million would be split between traffic management works and a fire track. The aquatic centre would include a creche, cafe, multi-purpose room, wellness centre, spa, lap pool, water slide, splash park, toddler and learn-to-swim pools and stadium seating. The second option would include the same features as option one but with a 50-metre pool.It would cost $28.97 million, about $3 million more than option one.The council has also canvassed a third option that would cost $28.8 million.Option three is the same as option one, with a 25m pool, but also includes a lagoon pool at the White Hills Botanic Gardens. The lagoon pool would replace the existing White Hills swimming pool. The report to council recommends councillors either endorse option one or two.“The inclusion of option three has been included for council’s consideration as an example of what can be achieved with the same level of expenditure but is not being presented as a final recommendation,” the report states.
