The festival was due to take place between October 3-10.
City of Greater Bendigo Health and Wellbeing Director Vicky Mason said despite planning a full program of events the city had made the decision to cancel the face-to-face activities due to the restrictions on people numbers currently in place.
"We know this is a very popular festival for our older residents and we are really disappointed that we cannot hold activities where people can gather together again this year," she said.
"However, there will still be a special selection of online content available for older residents to enjoy and we are looking to reschedule the much-loved opening concert to a time when more people will be able to attend which is great news."
The Bendigo Seniors Festival is part of the Victorian Seniors Festival and this is the second year the festival has been affected by COVID-19 restrictions.
Ms Mason said they were delighted to offer an initiative where people could nominate someone over 65 years of age who they think deserves to be recognised to receive a celebration box of delicious treats to enjoy.
"So if anyone knows of an inspiring person who they think makes a difference to their community and has a positive attitude to ageing they can nominate them to receive a celebration box."
"I also encourage all older residents to check out the diverse range of online activities as you may find activities that will surprise and delight you."
